JEAN DEGOTTEX
BIOGRAPHY
Born in 1918 and died in 1988 in Paris, Jean Degottex is a major figure of lyrical abstraction in France. He asserted himself in the 1950s with paintings favoring the sign and the impulse of gesture.
Inspired by the masters of Far Eastern calligraphy and steeped in Zen philosophy, his art combines discipline and gestural immediacy.
