Portrait Gregorio Botta.jpg

"I started doing journalism at 21, but after two years, I realized that I couldn't do just this profession. I enrolled in the Accademia di Belle Arti and  from there began a double life" Gregorio Botta confides.

Gregorio Botta frequents the studio of Professor Toti Scialoja, who was also the one of Pino Pascali and Jannis Kounellis.

Several curators support the work of Gregorio Botta starting with the famous critic A. Bonito Oliva who revealed it in the exhibition Trasparenze dell' arte italiano sulla via della seta in Beijing in 1993 then he signed the curatorship in 2009 of a solo exhibition at the Volume Foundation in Rome. In the same city Gregorio Botta is presented at MACRo, Museum of Contemporary Art in 2012.

Then Vincenzo Trione, curator of the Italian pavilion at the last Biennale, invited him to the Trajan Markets in 2013 and in 2015, to the Milan Triennale.

In 2014, Lóránd Hegyi, then director of the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Saint-Étienne, also curated Gregorio Botta's personal exhibition INWATER, au Palazzo Te in Mantua. A year before he signed the curatorship of the exhibition Italian presence with Marisa Albanese, Gianni Dessi, Gregorio Botta, Nunzio. Edition on the occasion of a newspaper with texts by Laurent Heyghi and an interview by Henri-François Debailleux and Odile Aittouarès.

Gregorio Botta was then invited in 2016 to the Museum of Contemporary Art in Santiago de Chile and in 2020 the National Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art in Rome devoted a large exhibition to him.

The first works of Gregorio Botta are made with encaustic then wax, his research led him to take an interest in glass, lead, iron, and natural elements: water, air, to paint light. All his work is finally "a reflection around the fragility, the acceptance of the passage of time and its impermanence".

His works are held in public collections such as Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Moderna, MAXXI, Macro, Roma; Palazzo delle Esposizioni, permanent opera, Roma; Madre, Napoli; Mart, Rovereto; Musma, Matera; European Community Bank, Francoforte; Philip Morris, New York.
