Yann Bagot's drawing practice is based on on-site experiences in contact with nature. During immersive residencies at sea, on the coast, in the forest or in the mountains, he seeks to become one with the place, to experience the intensity of the moment.
Exploring the medium of Indian ink mixed with salt on paper, he traces the shapes of the world, on the lookout for the movements of the waters that run through it and unify it. Produced in the open air, according to the constraints of the terrain and meteorological movements, his series of drawings attempt to connect with the landscapes he has experienced. In the studio, large-format series attempt to recreate the immersive scale and physical intensity of the natural elements.
He was regularly invited to artistic residencies: Villa Saint-Louis N'Dar - Institut français du Sénégal in 2024, on the schooner Tara invited by the Tara Océan Foundation in 2023, at the Abbaye de La Cambre with the South African Foundation for Contemporary Art in 2022, at the Sémaphore de la Pointe du Grouin in Cancale in 2021 and 2023, at Abri Mémoire in Uffholtz in 2020, Fondation François Schneider in 2018.
In 2021, his work was presented at the DDessin Paris contemporary drawing fair as a favourite of Eve de Medeiros, the fair's founder; he was selected on several occasions for the Pierre David Weill Drawing Prize of the Académie des Beaux-Arts, receiving a mention in 2023. In 2024, his drawings were exhibited at 104 in Paris, in the exhibition ‘La grande expédition, Tara, l'art et la science pour révéler l'océan’.
