Yann Bagot - The alchemy of nature

Partly the result of chance—due to the use of water and salt—its rocks and “pitted” bark seem to breathe and pulsate within their concretions. Frozen flows—yet seemingly in motion—of blacks and grays speckled with crystalline white, the flows, like stains, constantly oscillating between form and formlessness, become metaphors for life and trace, in vivo, organic movements and metamorphoses. Antediluvian crystallizations, his monumental rocks, in their silvery, powdery coats, also appear as a metaphor for time. From the vegetal to the mineral, in communion with the sap oozing and crackling beneath the moss and bark, the sea spray and the breath of the wind caressing the motionless stones, Yann Bagot seeks to “intensify the powers of matter.” An almost alchemical quest, fascinating and magnificent.
