BIOGRAPHY
French sculptor born in March 1954.
Self-taught, Etienne Viard was first interested in ceramics, then very quickly devoted himself to sculpture. He thus learns to handle steel directly.
He is inspired by the minimalist movement which reduces the essential of the plastic vocabulary to one of its elementary components: the line.
This fragmented, stretched, curved, elongated or straight line rests on a fragile balance. Largely inspired by vegetal and mineral shapes and undulations, he strives to pursue the work of movement which is characterized by a precarious and perpetual tensioning. Defined as a “steel sculptor” Etienne Viard mainly uses Corten steel whose appearance of surface corrosion confronts the installation with its environment.
