BIOGRAPHY

portrait de Liliane Klapisch par Yair Talmon.jpg

"Liliane Klapisch makes no secret of this almost exclusive interest in the uninteresting. When she goes to the Louvre, she explains, she doesn't pay attention in the sense that we do. When she leaves the Louvre, she says, she finds interest in the first plastic bottle that catches her eye, as if there were something there that had never been looked at closely enough, and so a little extra presence is possible, and unexpected. (...)

Under his brushes, the objects seem to speak above all of their inanity. No doubt they display the emptiness in which they are immersed as much as the acuity of the gaze that fixes on them. It could even be said that the real subject of Liliane Klapisch's paintings is always emptiness. This is undoubtedly why her gaze, despite all the tenderness with which she looks around her, always seems a little sobered, and what she shows, saved in extremis from a shipwreck."
