BIOGRAPHY
Marie-Claude Bugeaud is a French artist born in 1941 in Paris.
"In her paintings, figures, patterns, signs appear and play with line and cutting. Irregular squares, dots, flowers, knots, arabesques, interlacing. These motifs borrow abstract or symbolic signs from primitive traditions or decorative systems: a detail for the whole, a wavy shape for the hair, a fold for the dress. In recent works, color returns: carmine reds, acid yellows, washed-out blues. Color supports of the signs, which by line or by mass, cross the painting.
Marie-Claude Bugeaud is a painter of oscillation. Between line and color, between abstraction and allusion to a few motifs — hair, mouth, ... — her work progresses. Forces confront each other and find, in this very confrontation, their rightful place. The lightness of the arabesques combats the darkness of the dots. Concentration, the weight of the points come, against this lightness, to call back to the tragic order of the world."
