ANTONY SCHNECK
THE PASSER
February 6 - 18 April 2020EXTENSION
PARIS
The artist of the exhibition
Faces of Africa in frontal immobility, suspended in an unlimited space plunged into deep blackness. Their eyes wide open, fix the invisible inviting to meditation. Are they deities ?
They are above all men, if we refer to the scrupulous details of the physiognomy and the rendering of the material with which Antoine Schneck, like a goldsmith, likes to photograph. The down of the contour of the face is as if palpable and shows that there is neither editing nor cutting. You can make out every droplet of sweat trickling down your forehead. And the regules, one by one, as if engraved in the skin, draw the sensual relief of the contour of the lips.
Between Irrealism and hyperrealism Antoine Schneck destabilizes and bewitches us.
Is this a portrait of a real man, as Antoine Schneck also suggests by the titles of the photographs that they are the names of these beings he met on his way_cc781905-5cde-3194- bb3b-136bad5cf58d_?
Or is it ultimately a universal portrait that like a boomerang comes back to us to question us ?
