JEAN BRAULT
Peintures, L’œil en promenade
To mark the publication of his book L’oeil en promenade, Jean Brault is presenting a series of recent works at the Berthet-Aittouarès gallery.
"My work is a representation of the world, parallel to the world; it is not realistic. The subjects are always the same: landscape, nude, still life. From the chaos of the world, I extract fragments that I stylize and embellish. I need lines of force, construction; perhaps that is where there is an abstract truth, the transcendence of the image through painting. It is in this passage, in this relationship to the thing, at the heart of this transformation, that the subject—the image becomes the painting—the abstract truth. The paintings as a whole tell a story with various developments. These thematic groupings respond to each other and form an imaginary world to be shared with the viewer, based on their visual culture, their own developments, and their time of the image."
