Michèle Aittouarès founded the Berthet-Aittouarès gallery in 1986. In 2000 Odile rejoint la galerie she was joined by her daughter Odile Aittouarès, art historian and author of the catalog raisonné of Friesz, co-founder of the St. Germain Photo Festival and the JeudiDesBeauxArts Association.

Their collaboration began with the exhibition "Chine-Occident ou l’aventure du signe" centered on Zao Wou Ki, Mark Tobey, Jean Degottex, Henri Michaux and Shan Sa.

The gallery occupies two spaces on the Left Bank; initially 29 rue de Seine, then 2 rue des Beaux-arts, where Pierre Loeb's gallery was formerly.

The mother and daughter specialize in modern and contemporary art with an emphasis on informal art from the 50s to 80s. They are references for artists like Jean Degottex, Hans Hartung, Pierre Tal-Coat, Henri Michaux, André Marfaing, Vera Molnar, Mario Giacomelli.
