Marie-Claude Bugeaud is a french painter born in 1941.

"In her paintings, figures, motifs, signs appear and defy line and decoupage. Irregular squares, dots, flowers, knots, arabesques, interlacings. These motifs borrow abstract or symbolical signs from primitive traditions or to decorative systems: a detail for the whole, an ondulating form for hair, a fold for a dress. In the recent works colour returns: carmine reds, sharp yellows, pale blues. This colour constitutes the material substrate for signs, to develop as lines or masses across the painting.   

Marie-Claude Bugeaud is a painter marked by an oscillation. Between line and colour, between abstraction and allusions to motifs - hair, mouth,... - her work moves forward. Forces contend with one another and find in this very confontration, their right place. The lightness of the arabesques combat the darkness of the dots. Against this lightness, the dots' concentration, their weight remind us of the tragic order of the world."
